Hemen bir açıklama yapan Honda ekibi “Casey 2012′nin MotoGP’deki son senesi olacağını açıkladı. Umarız harika bir sezon geçiririz.” dedi.
Stoner: “Uzun bir düşünme süreci geçirdim ailemve eşimle birlikte. 2012 benim son senem olacaktır. 2013′te MotoGP için pistte olmayacağım. Artıkfarklı şeylerle ilgilenmek istiyorum.”
“Ailemle birlikte bir çok fedakarlıklar yapmak zorunda kaldık ama artık spor çok değişti ve ben zevk almıyorum. Eğer içimde tutku yoksa, bırakmak en doğrusudur.”
“Beni hayal kırıklığına götüren bir çok şey oldu ve ayrıca sporda sevdiğim bir o kadarda çok şey oldu ama ne yazıkki dengeler değişti. Ve böylece, temel olarak, biz devam etmeyeceğiz. Bir yıl dahayarışabileceğimi söylemek güzel olurdu, ama biz herşeyi bitirmeye karar verdik.”

2007 yılında Ducati GP7′si ile 18 yarışta kazanmış olduğu 10 galibiyet 14 podyum ve 5 pole ilesezonu 367 puanla lider bitirmiş ve ilk şampiyonluğunu kazanmıştı.
2008 yılında Ducati GP8′i ile 18 yarışta 6 galibiyet 11 podyum ve 9 pole ile sezonu 280 puanla 2. sırada bitirmişti.
2009 yılında Ducati GP9′u ile 13 yarışa katılmış, 4 galibiyet 8 podyum ve 3 pole ile sezonu 220 puanla 4. bitirmişti.
2010 yılında Ducati GP10′u ile 18 yarışa katıldı ve 3 galibiyet 9 podyum ve 4 pole ile sezonu 225 puanla 4. bitirdi.
2011 yılında takım değiştiren Stoner, Repsol Honda’ya gitmişti. 17 yarışta 10 galibiyet 16 podyum ve 12 pole ile sezonu 350 puanla lider tamamladı ve 2. şampiyonluğunu kutladı.
2012 yılında yapılan 3 yarışta, 2 galibiyet 3 podyum ve 1 pole ile sezonu 66 puanla lider devam ettirmektedir.
